Our Newest Community Partners: Farmer Foodshare & the Western Wake Farmers Market!

We are thrilled to be the newest recipient group of the Farmer Foodshare Donation Station Program! Their mission is to “connect people who grow food with people who need food” – pretty fantastic. Our Donation Station home this spring, summer, and fall will be at the Western Wake Farmers Market – please come visit us and snap up some gorgeous locally grown produce and handcrafted food while you’re there!

The Donation Station program is a highly replicable and innovative model that focuses on increasing access to fresh food through a simple farmers’ market based approach.

Currently, programs are running at 20 Farmers Markets across 8 counties. Since its founding at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market in May 2009, the program has raised over 100 tons of fresh top-quality local food for nonprofit organizations increasing food security in counties across North Carolina. Hundreds of farms work year round with dozens of volunteers to connect food to thousands of food insecure “eaters”.
